best wishes in your new home! I'm sure youre awash in recommendations but I don't see mine come up much - if you like Indian food (vegetarian), seek out Udupi Palace. I only know it because I grew up with the DC-Area location which closed years ago, but when I went to Chicago I visited the location there and that okra brought back so many delicious memories....
I love Chicago and look forward to seeing some side notes of the life you build there
Welcome to Chicago from a fellow writer and food lover! I moved to Chicago from the East Coast as well (in my case D.C.) and adapted really quickly - 15 years later, I’m still here. Happy to help answer any questions you have or meet up for coffee or such when you arrive!
I absolutely love to hear this and it makes me very happy! I would be thrilled to have a Chicago coffee or delicious meal :) (Seems like there are many of those to be had!).
Hannah! I have so many thoughts on Chicago! When I moved there a million years ago from NY, I thought I would never recover. Instead, my heart molded into a bean shape to where Brooklyn paled in comparison when I went back. I’ll send you a million food recos in the future but my one tip is to really, really focus on the neighborhood you live in more than the property. Where you live in Chicago determines your whole experience there. Choose a location that matches your vibe. I’m excited for you!
Chicago!!! On behalf of NewJersey, we will miss you! And we’ll always be here for you ❤️
You had me crying at the snoo to crib bit. These small/major transitions are just so poignant in these moments in time. Beautiful capture, Hannah! And best of luck!
And my next comment which I see right above me was going to be to reach out to the writing queen of the Midwest, Karla Walsh!!
Can’t wait to have you here. Chicago is great. It feels weird to leave Brooklyn. But five years later, for me at least, things are feeling really right. And it didn’t take five years to feel that way!
Ohh Hannah, this made me tear up. Thank you for sharing your story and words. I could hear your voice as I read them and it was so soothing. I wish you the best in this new, exciting chapter! You will do amazing! And please keep us posted on the move. 💗
What beautiful memories and reflections, Hannah. I'll be thinking of you and your family during the move—and am so excited to welcome you to the Midwest! (I live in Des Moines.) If I can assist in any way with the transition, just say the word!
And if you haven't been to Rose Mary (https://www.rosemarychicago.com/), I highly recommend that for a date night once you settle in. 😊
